WFRP4 - Sea of Claws Review (Cubicle7, DriveThruRPG)

Cubicle7 has done, again, a amazing sourcebook! This time it takes us to perilous waters of the Sea of Claws (and also any other seas). Sea of Claws is sourcebook about the lands surrounding the Sea of Claws, sea that lies between land of Norsca and the nations of the Old World. But, it is also sourcebook about sea travel and various rules connected to that. Personally I find it very interesting as it has alot of Norsca information. And there are also so many small details, that must be either added, or maybe little changed, on my Norsca Projects. But, more that later, when I start doings the changes...

The book is full of information. So, what we got here? Well, first there is the history. Then details about various locations on the shores of the Sea of Claws. Each location has interesting places, details, adventure hooks, personel... Besides this information there are other details (see more below). After locations, you got huge amount of rules. Below the list what you will get.

- History and current situation
- Bretonnia and the Wasteland (this includes Marienburg, Sea Magics, Elves...)
- The Ostland Coast
- The Troll Country (Throgg the Troll King, The Sarl Coast...)
- Kraka Ravnsvake (Norse Dwarf Characters, Dwarf Navy, Ungruvalk...)
- Religion
- The Skaeling Coast (information about Norse, The Skaelings, Kirkjugardur Landgskipa, Norse Characters - Bjornlings, Sarl, Skaelings, Norse Careers...)
- The Bjornling Coast (Wind Effects, Skjold...)

But, that is not all. Book also has following rules:
- The Seafarer Class (New Talents, New Careers including Sailor-Priest of Manann...)
- The Cult of Manann (with Miracles)
- The Cult of Stromfels (with Priest of Stromfels career and Miracles of Stromfels...)
- Boats and Boatbuilding (ship building rules, traits, upgrades, artillery...)
- Seafaring (manoeuvres, weather, navigation, chasing and racings, collisions, damaging boats, repairing boats, boat critical hits...)
- Sailing Larger Vessels (crew tests, morale..)
- Extended Voyages (events, endeavours at sea, maritime trade...)
- Gazetteer of Ports around the Sea of Claws
- Gazetteer of International Ports
- Bestiary (including famous personel)

+ There is a map of Sea of Claws too, but I personally recommend using my Norsca Map, which I do have to update after this. I also have very fitting Whaler Career on my WFRP4 Rules for any adventures in Sea of Claws.

Sea of Claws - Great work, great sourcebook!

Fan - CHAOS RISING (chaosrisingofficial.com, Kickstarter)

You never know what fan-based projects may come around. Another fan of Warhammer (and my site) brought this one to my attention. And what can I say – This is pretty amazing looking kickstarter called CHAOS RISING.

The CHAOS RISING is a short film (or 3-part series) about Old World, inspired by the Warhammer Fantasy Universe. It is not just about Warhammer, but it follows Norscan Svarthamarr Clan. It is made by long-time fans of the Warhammer Fantasy, but also by pretty professional looking group.

See more from the official site and official Kickstarter site (links below). Their teaser or trailer (about 5 minutes) has much more information. Little warning – It has Violence and Gore (still, it's funny). So, depending your home country it probably has some PG or even R rated rating… I don’t know. You been warned. Blood for the Blood God!

Warhammer Chronicles: Warriors of the Chaos Wastes Omnibus (Black Library)

Black Library is publishing omnibus with couple of the best and darkest novels done for the World-That-Was. Warriors of Chaos Wastes Omnibus features Wulfrik, Blood for the Blood God and Palace of the Plague Lord from legendary C.L. Werner. These are dark and twisted tales from the wastes, where both mortals and daemons alike walk.

New Norsca Map, version 3.00

Norsca Map, version 3.00.

There are huge number of small changes/new things on the map compared to previous version. But, also some major changes to some parts of the Norsca. Most have come from the Total War: Warhammer. Had to make some "bigger" adjustments with that, so the map would nicely look like combination of the old maps and the Total War.

Here are some new things:
  • Most roads across the Norsca are off course pretty much just bad trails. But, it was much more logical, that there was some better main roads across the land connecting the east and the west and the south and the north (for trade caravans and also armies to move). So, changed some of the trails to roads.
  • Made some big changes to Vanaheim and Helspire Mountain ranges. Decided to change those more alike with Total War map. They are now divided by valley and Vanaheim range became much smaller. Also, Helspire range became much larger as I added more mountains there (removed some valleys).
  • Big changes to Sarl Lands too. Made Trollheim Mountains - Ulfwerenar Mountains - Jotunheims more like in Total War map. This created much bigger valley between them. Everthunder Pass just became larger (not just pass, but actually wide valley).
  • Total War: Ice Tooth Mountains are now the main name of former Mountains of Thjazi, which is now the second calling name ("old" name) for this mountain range.
  • Total War: Moved The Monolith of Katam to the shoreline as in Total War. On a map found from the WFB 8th edition: Warriors of Chaos it is inland, but I decided to go with Total War here.
  • Total War: Moved Doomkeep more south.
  • Total War: Moved The Tower of Khrakk also more south, and away from mountains, as in Total War.
  • Total War: Decided to move Bay of Blades more north, based on the Total War. It is a location, not settlement, but now it is situated next to Sarl capital, which seems logical place.
  • Total War: Added SECOND Winter Pyre (different location).
  • Total War: Added Troll Fjord, Pack Ice Bay, The Naglfari Plain and Icedrake Fjord. These are not settlements, but there are main settlements on them, that can be the places found from Total War.
  • Total War: Added places like Tashnar, and Bloodfjord.
  • Total War: Added settlements of Aesling's Conclave, Bjornling's Gathering, Baersonling's Camp, Sarl Encampment, Varg Camp, Altar of Spawns, Serpents Jetty, Graeling Moot, Longship Graveyard, Frozen Landing.
  • Many thank's should be given to number of fans, that have been active about various Norsca information and places. There are number of new places found from various official sources (old, new, novels...).
  • Then there are number of new fan-based places on the map (these come from various unofficial fan-sources).
  • And finally added some details to the land. More marshes, lakes, rivers, trails...etc. Western fjords have now more "elevation" even it is hidden under the forests.
You can find the download links to actual huge maps (.jpg) from Norsca -page, but also from here:

Total War: WARHAMMER - Norsca DLC (SEGA & The Creative Assembly)

In the far north, between the Chaos Wastes and the Sea of Claws, lies Norsca. A barren, inhospitable peninsula in the far north of the Old World, it is home to ferocious tribes of warriors, hardened by the relentless blizzards, the barren icy tundra and the monstrous denizens of this accursed land. Fanatical servants of the dark gods, they will stop at nothing to prove their primal might, in a relentless hunt for worthy foes and fresh raiding grounds.

Norsca! What can I say more... I'm excited. New units (Ice Wolves, Ice Trolls, Skin Wolves/Ulfwerenar, Mammoth, Fimir...), new rules, new legendary lords (Wulfrik the Wanderer, Throgg).

Nordland story

It is time to publish another story from Hamza Changazi (aka Kolsveinn), a great Norsca-fan, who has written a great story about the Norse titled: Nordland. It is a story about mysterious boy, who meets group of Northmen reavers (Norse) and what happens after that. I love this story and the characters. It really leaves you wanting to read more about them. Direct link to story below and it can also be found from my Norsca -page.

Enjoy!

Merry Christmas & Happy Hexenstag!

Something for the Christmas - A new Norsca Map version 2.5. It features number of new places found from various novels, The End Times -campaign and also some fan-stuff. Those new places could be hard to find from the map, but they are there ;-) Map itself features large area covering Norsca, Chaos Wastes shoreline, Albion, northern Bretonnia, northern Wasteland, northern Empire, most of Kislev, Troll Country and High Pass.

Then something to read - The Tribes of Chaos: The Ysgrimlinga (as penned down by Brother Reichart Kriegvulf of Salzenmund). Great story/record about one of the most feared Norse tribe, that are part of the Aesling high tribe. Author is another huge Norsca-fan Kolsveinn.

You can find all those from my Norsca page.

And all this is just the beginning. Next year there will be, finally, a new version of Norsca: The Grim North of Perilous Adventure...

Hrafn's Saga

Something for all the Norsca-fans, while waiting the new version of Norsca Project.

Here is a original story about one of the characters I have created for the Norsca project. This story will feature new places, heroes, items...etc. that will be in the Norsca Project and in the Norsca Map. Also events will be in the Norsca Timeline. Very special thanks to other great Norsca-fan Hamza Changazi (aka Kolsveinn) for writing the Hrafn's Saga.

Archaon, Part I: Everchosen (novel)

Picture taken by Jackdays. Original cover art by Raymond Swanland. This is unofficial and no way endorsed by mentioned people. No challenge to their status intended. All original rights reserved to their respected owners.

"In the north of the world the forces of Chaos gather, awaiting their moment to strike. At their head is the Everchosen, the warrior who will lead the final, cataclysmic assault that will usher in the End Times and the reign of the Ruinous Powers. But he was not always thus – he was once a man, a devout servant of the warrior-god Sigmar. What could cause such a soul to fall to the worship of the Dark Gods? What dark events could have put a knight of the Empire on the path to becoming the harbinger of the world’s end? And just who was the man who will become known to all as Archaon?" -Archaon - Everchosen by Rob Sanders

I usually try to keep my site more RPG based. But Archaon is just one of those characters... I mean it has been decade (in real life) when the Storm of Chaos campaign was published. Archaon has been the big-bad-Chaos-commander ever since in the WFB books, and the SoC event itself has been "hanging" in the timeline.

Now, finally, there is a book about his story! See more information from the Black Library site.

Also I'm interested in this, because the Norsca Project. And I have heard rumors that more books about his story are coming?!
