Merry Christmas & Happy Hexenstag!

Something for the Christmas - A new Norsca Map version 2.5. It features number of new places found from various novels, The End Times -campaign and also some fan-stuff. Those new places could be hard to find from the map, but they are there ;-) Map itself features large area covering Norsca, Chaos Wastes shoreline, Albion, northern Bretonnia, northern Wasteland, northern Empire, most of Kislev, Troll Country and High Pass.

Then something to read - The Tribes of Chaos: The Ysgrimlinga (as penned down by Brother Reichart Kriegvulf of Salzenmund). Great story/record about one of the most feared Norse tribe, that are part of the Aesling high tribe. Author is another huge Norsca-fan Kolsveinn.

You can find all those from my Norsca page.

And all this is just the beginning. Next year there will be, finally, a new version of Norsca: The Grim North of Perilous Adventure...

Solstice Challenge 2015

Solstice Challenge 2015! The Stars Are Right - Doc Cthulhu has declared again a challenge for WFRP players to create a onesheet adventure for Solstice.

In the old days WFRP was supposedly created as a “fantasy version of Call of Cthulhu”. I think this idea is still very good one and one we should follow in this challenge. Bring in the mysteries, cults and weird uncles. Raise up the dead ones and whisper threaded names in ancient libraries.

Entries need to be posted before 18th of December to Doc. And at 19th of December Doc will open a poll for two days of voting. See full details and "rules" from his site: The Daily Empire or more from Strike to Stun forum topic.

Special Games are coming back?

Special Games (Blood Bowl, Epic Armegeddon, Necromunda, Battlefleet Gothic...) are coming back? Games Workshop has created a new division known as the "Specialist Product Design Studio". Is this real? Seems like so. Announcement (above) is from Games Workshop Belconnen Facebook.

Expanded & Optional Weaponry (WFRP2 Rules)

Inspired by the works of other fans, about alternative weapon rules, in Strike to Stun forum I decided to make new edition of my Expanded WFRP2 Weaponry (1.1) document. This document is mostly loyal to the original WFRP2 rules. Added number of new things:
  • Made document more easy to read.
  • Divided each weapon category to "common" and "exotic".
  • Cleared some Qualities and also added some new Qualities.
  • Added number of new (and exotic) weaponry.
  • Fixed stats of some weaponry.
  • Made Giant-sized weaponry even more deadly.
  • Added some new combat rules, including Armour Damage rules (at the very end of the document).

And then, inspired by other fans work, I made Optional WFRP2 Weaponry (1.0) document. This is pretty much same as the above, but each and every type of weapon has unique stats making them truly different with each other. I have also tried to balance weapons as best I can. And added some new Qualities to make weaponry maybe more realistic.

Both these documents can be found from WFRP2 Rules -page.

ZWEIHÄNDER - A Grim & Perilous RPG: Magical News

art from http://grimandperilous.com, with permission
It's time to advertise also ZWEIHÄNDER - A Grim & Perilous RPG -project. This project has taken its time and still going on. But, it is very promising! It started as next version or advanced version of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Now, former "Project Corehammer" has become a new RPG system very much inspired by previous WFRP editions. I don't need to tell more, just go and see more from the official site: What is ZWEIHÄNDER?

Nuln Maps, Version 2.1

I have updated Nuln maps. There are some new locations from couple of new sources and then some changes to the old ones. You can find the maps from the Nuln -page.

The End Times, Part IV: Thanquol (WFB campaign book):
  • Watch-stations are also called as the "Black Towers"
  • Some new Watch-stations ("Black Towers")
  • Folly's Quarter
  • Marktplatz (C107)
  • Sump Docks (C108)
  • Morr's Hill (C109)
  • The Last Hope Inn (C110)
  • Grunplatz (C111)
  • River Navy Docks (F10)
  • Krupthof Foundry (F48)
Warpstone 29: Joust for Fun (fan magazine):
  • Some new noble estates.
  • The Great Field, Tourney Grounds, is location G16, just outside Der Halbinsel.
Gotrek & Felix: Road of Skulls (novel):
  • Plaza of Saints (B62)
Changes to the old locations:
  • Many of the Watch-stations ("Black Towers") have changed their locations. This is based on the information from The End Times, Part IV: Thanquol.
  • The Great Cathedral of Sigmar changed its location, with the temple of Myrmidia. Chapterhouse of Knights Griffon has now new location also. This is based on the information from The End Times, Part IV: Thanquol.
  • Vogelhaus Weg moved little further from its former location to remain in Niederfluss District.
  • New Marktplatz (C107) changed the look of the area from where it is located, next to gate X3. This is based on the information from The End Times, Part IV: Thanquol.
  • Emmanuelleplatz - Westway - Grand Strasse. How many names a favorite street may have? This is based on the information from The End Times, Part IV: Thanquol. My story would be, that originally this was "just" Westway. Kind of boring name. Then later on some Count decided to name the street Grand Strasse. Now, when Countess Emmanuelle von Liebwitz was born, the old Count decided to name the street as Emmanuelleplatz. Which doesn't even mean street, but plaza. But the Grand Strasse is basicly one big plaza where different merchants sell their wares all day long from the Great Bridge all the way to Aldig Quarter hill.

WFRP2: Gotrek & Felix, version 1.1

Gotrek & Felix. Dwarfen Slayer and his human Rememberer. Legendary Warhammer heroes.

I have updated little Gotrek & Felix stats (version 1.1). Nothing huge, just some details:
  • Added Mighty Rune Artifact specialty to Gotrek's Axe. This specialty is a rule, which breaks the Rune magic rules. With this, the axe hides now also a lost Master Rune of Unbinding. This rune was revealed in the Slayer novel.
  • Gotrek now also has the Secret Language (the Mine Code) -skill. Skill which is mentioned in a few novels.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: A Grim World of Perilous Adventure

As the new Warhammer: Age of Sigmar has come and the old Warhammer is just wasted, comes to mind, will the old Warhammer survive? I hope the old Warhammer somehow survives and lives with the help of it's fans. Hopefully some new gamers (both RPG and WFB), and fantasy readers will find it in the future too and become interested.

Hopefully.

There are three decades of good stuff written and a huge amount of knowledge, rich history and background stories to be used in games (novels, three editions of WFRP, eight editions of WFB, other games, White Dwarf magazines, Warpstone magazines, fan-stuff...etc). Also, I especially hope that the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay survives these radical changes.

More about Warhammer history, see also my WFRP history -page.

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is here...

So, the new Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is here ("Mighty battles in an age of unending war"). And it looks REALLY BAD. I mean Warhammer Fantasy has always been one of the best fantasy world settings ever made, and now this. Why? Well, the internet and various forums are full of all kinds of speculations. I won't go to those. Truth is, the good old Warhammer (grim and perilous) settings is now history and this new terrible high fantasy world setting is the new reboot. So, all that history and knowledge is wasted. Yes, there are stuff/persons (gods) that connect this new age to the one before The End Times, but still - this is totally new setting.

You can find (if you want to) more official information about the products...etc from Games Workshop and Black Library.

The Age of Sigmar Is Coming

These were the End Times. The world is no more, torn apart by treachery and Chaos. And yet... endings beget beginnings.
Listen carefully. Can you hear it? The cruel laughter of dark gods? It dances on the winds between worlds, striving to be heard, for the ruinous powers bore easily, and they seek tirelessly for new realities to conquer. Where there is life, Chaos will find it, and misery and bloodshed will soon follow.
The world is gone, but all may not be lost.
The descendants of the Old Ones left before the Chaos moon destroyed their homelands, that much is certain. But where did they go?
And if they escaped, did anyone else?
Can what is dead ever truly die?
Who remains lost in the void?
To what does he cling?
And when a world dies…
…what happens next?

What happens to the Warhammer Fantasy after The End Times? Yep, this is what all of us fans want to know - and also fear. But, it seems that this summer we will have answers, good or bad ones.

Keep checking more information from the official Games Workshop site.

Happy Birthday this site!

Happy Birthday this site! Kalevala Hammer is now eight years old.

This site started originally in web address http://www.freewebs.com/kalevalahammer on 24th May 2007. Little less than five years later, on 14th January 2012, web address changed to http://kalevalahammer.webs.com. On 2nd April 2014 site moved to its current web address. So, ever since 2007 Kalevala Hammer -site has served the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay community.

And a lot has happened. When site started, people were still talking about Storm of Chaos. WFRP2 was still "new". As was WFB7. Then WFRP2 official line ended and came WFRP3. Also came WFB8. Now WFRP3 official line has ended too (and it seems that official WFB8 also). There was final issue of legendary Warpstone Magazine, that has served the community for ages. And then came The End Times and the Warhammer world was destroyed...

There are much rumours about the future of Warhammer. Probably there will be a new version of WFB, but what type of game will that be? And, what kind of a world will be there? Will there be WFRP4? Well, all these remains to be seen.

The End Times Timeline, Version 0.2

Now, that the End Times have ended (and the world has burned), it's time to update the timeline also. The End Times Timeline, Version 0.2 is now available. It still features only years 2521 to 2524, but I have added huge amount of details to these years from all the sources connected to the event (many were missing when first version came out). I will probably try to collect the rest of the events also to this document eventually.

You can find The End Times Timeline and The End Times Map from the Universal Rules & Timelines -page.

All good things come to an end. My favorite Warhammer saga seems to have come to its final chapter. The Slayer's destiny is revealed in the final novel of the Gotrek and Felix series!

"With their friendship in tatters after a series of betrayals, Gotrek and Felix march south at the head of a ragtag army, intent upon driving the forces of Chaos out of the Empire and returning Felix to his wife. But Gotrek’s doom is at hand, and great powers are at work to ensure that he meets it. With enemies on all sides and destiny calling, Felix must make a choice: to follow Gotrek into the darkness that awaits him, or to abandon his oldest friend once and for all." -Slayer by David Guymer

The last heroes of men, elves and dwarfs gather to stop him, but to stand against the hordes of the Ruinous Powers, they must turn to darker allies. Against all reason, the last hope for the world may be the Undying King, Nagash himself – if he and the mortal races can find common cause and work together. Mordheim - City of the Damned & Vermintide

Even The End Times seem to burn the entire Warhammer world, there are still new products coming. Two new games are on the way:

Mordheim - City of the Damned
Mordheim: City of the Damned is the first video game adaptation of Games Workshop's cult classic tabletop game Mordheim. Set in the Warhammer World's decimated Empire city, Mordheim: City of the Damned is a turn-based tactical game where you lead warbands into bloody and lethal skirmishes. The game blends RPG elements, fast-paced tactical combat and intricate unit customization in a time wrought by chaos and rivalry where only the strongest survive.

After a twin tailed comet crashed on Mordheim, the City of Damned turned into a terrifying battlefield where rival warbands fight fiercely for the control of key neighborhoods, looking for glory and fortune by acquiring the very valuable Wyrdstone fragments.

Warhammer: The End Times - Vermintide
Independent developer Fatshark announced today the development of Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide, a co-operative action first person shooter and melee combat adventure set in the End Times of the iconic Warhammer Fantasy universe.

In Vermintide, the city of Ubersreik is under siege as players select from a band of five heroes with different play-styles and abilities, all equipped with unique gear and personalities. Working together cooperatively, players must use their individual attributes to survive an apocalyptic invasion from hordes of relentless, power hungry Skaven, across a range of environments stretching from the top of the Magnus Tower to the bowels of the Under Empire.

The End Times Timeline & Map

I have been updating Warhammer timeline for years, keeping all the current happenings listed. Well, then came The End Times. Now, it very much seems that my efforts are pretty much at the end as the Warhammer world burns... Hopefully not, but let's see how these things play out. But, I did start a timeline for The End Times.

You can find the The End Times Timeline and The End Times Map from the Universal Rules & Timelines -page.

Here's few notes about the timeline:
  • Timeline was created to serve Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. To organize the events and to connect them to all the other events published in all the other products. The focus is in the Old World and the Empire. It also has various small other details there and there.
  • It serves years 2521 to 2524 (for now). The End Times do not end there. In fact, they basically start from the year 2525, when all the really apocalyptic events start. But most of the adventures and campaigns for WFRP2 and WFRP3 were created and set to this time period.
  • It is not just The End Times. I have collected previous information from the WFRP sources, WFB sources, novels...etc. and updated those events to this timeline best I can. For example Storm of Chaos (SoC) doesn't anymore happen as it happened originally, when it was published first time. It's rebooted, not gone, but different. So, all the stuff related to that have changed more or less.
  • I have presented few ideas for various WFRP campaigns set to this time period. What might change and how.
  • As for campaigns - For example events of the new The Enemy Within (WFRP3) are now placed on the year 2522 (as they are in the campaign actually) and connected with other stuff going on. Originally I placed them to the year 2521 in original SoC timeline, but The End Times changed this...
  • With this timeline, there is also a map, with various new places mentioned in the timeline/The End Times. I have used the Gitzmans Gallery's Super Huge Detailed World Map.
  • So, this is just the first draft, and we will have too see if I have interest to update the timeline to the end...

The End Times, Part IV - Thanquol & The Rise of the Horned Rat (novel & campaign)

Picture taken by Jackdays. Original cover art by Paul Dainton. This is unofficial and no way endorsed by mentioned people. No challenge to their status intended. All original rights reserved to their respected owners.
"The End Times are coming. In the warrens of Skavenblight, a new power is rising. The verminlords walk the earth and they plan to lead the skaven to their destiny as rulers of the world. But for Queek Headtaker, the only destiny that matters is his own, as he plans his final assault on Karak Eight Peaks. In the depths of that ancient city, two rival kings - the goblin Skarsnik and the dwarf Belegar - prepare to meet the onslaught. And in Karaz-a-Karak, High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer presides over what he knows, in his heart, is the end of the dwarf empire. The Horned Rat rises and nothing will ever be the same..." -The Rise of the Horned Rat by Guy Haley

The book about these events is: The End Times - The Rise of the Horned Rat by Guy Haley (the Black Library)

The campaign book for Warhammer Fantasy Battle is called : Thanquol (Games Workshop)
